Dear Member of the European Parliament,

I urgently appeal to those Members of the European Parliament who intend to vote “for”, or who are still undecided, on the regulation on NGT plants (Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on plants obtained by certain new genomic techniques and their food and feed, and amending Regulation (EU) 2017/625).

How can one trust those who claim that Category 1 NGT plants – new GMOs – are safe for health and the environment without providing any evidence to support this? And yet they support a draft regulation on NGT plants that does not include an obligation to carry out the procedures – developed, for example, under GMO legislation – designed to verify whether a given Category 1 NGT plant is indeed safe for health and the environment…, that is, at least:

– conducting risk analyses for health and the environment,

– traceability and monitoring,

– food and feed labelling…

How can one believe those who declare that new genomic techniques (NGTs) are safe and precise, whilst at the same time concealing facts known for years to science and experimental practice – namely that the use of NGTs causes, apart from this one or a few planned, precise changes, unintended – including extensive and diverse ones – in various parts of the plant, animal and human genome, which may pose a real risk to health or the environment?

And no specialist is able to predict how many, where, or what the consequences of these unintended mutations will be… And that this can only be determined after carrying out specialized research procedures, so as not to wake up ‘with one’s hand in the potty’…

And do you, honourable Member of the European Parliament, realise how offensive to modern scientific knowledge – and therefore dangerous – is the criterion of equivalence between NGT plants and conventional plants included in the regulation under discussion?

The above and other scientific facts, based on the publication of the results of contemporary scientific research, are presented and illustrated in the report entitled ‘Facts, myths and the truth about NGTs (new GMOs)’ which is available on the updated website: https://doprawdy.info/2026/02/facts-myths-and-truth-about-ngts-new-gmos/.

Is it therefore rational and responsible to base your decisions on declarations that are myths or at most expectations, or justified not by facts but by successive declarations that this is progress and modernity…?

Honourable Member of the European Parliament. Remember that you represent the citizens of EU member states who prioritize the safety of their health and the safety of the environment in which they live…

And in particular, most of us do not want GMOs – which are also NGT plants – both on our plates and in our fields.

This regulation is one of those pieces of legislation whose effects will touch all people living in EU countries.

I therefore expect you to vote against the regulation on NGT plants that does not include:

– an obligation to carry out the aforementioned procedures, developed, for example, under GMO legislation, which are designed to verify whether a given Category 1 NGT plant is indeed safe for human and animals health and the environment,

– and an obligation to label food and feed.

Yours faithfully,
